DESERT CITY

This weekend we have gone to explore the desert! here in Madrid there is a new place called Dessert City, the largest biotechnology nursery specializing in Xerophilism (cactus and other xerophytic plants). They have brought cactus from around the world (more than 400 species), some of them with amazing shapes ...

What do you think? Anyone would say it's next door ... it looks like we're in the middle of the desert!

BRUGES

Me encanta viajar, mi último destino: Brujas.

I love travel, my last destination: Bruges.

Thanks to Maria's directions (she lives in Bern and knows everything about Bruges) we were able to walk around this city in the blink of an eye.

We stayed in the NH Hotel, perfect hotel for a weekend, no very special, but comfortable rooms and perfect location.

The route recommended by Maria was as follows:
Leaving the hotel we crossed to the concert hall and from there we took the main street Zuidzandstraat, this avenue has to cross to the end, is full of shops and ideal homes, many of the sixteenth and seventeenth century and now converted into shops and restaurants with lots of charm (even the Mc Donalds is a spectacular building !!!).

Halfway to the Cathedral San Salvador and at the end we reach the main square: Grote Markt. On one side is the government building (Waterhalle) and post office.

On the other side of the square is the bell tower, which you can climb to see the city.

Leaving the bell tower on the right there is a little street, Breidelstrat, which goes to other square: Burg, where is the Palace of Justice and the Town Hall. Here we stop to take a waffle in Chez Albert ..... impossible to go to Belgium and not try one, they are amazing !!!

On Burg Square there is small church, outside is not very nice but when you enter it is a small treasure.

Between the two buildings there is a street that takes you to another part of Bruges, the first section is wonderful, classic and pure Flanders, but suddenly you enter the area they call the Venice of the North, less monumental but equally or more impressive with canals .

In this area is the fish market, and walking you will reach the crossing of Braambergstraat with Pandreltje, stop here, is the typical photo with the canals....

By Katerijnstraat you have to go down to the Begijnhof, the best known Beguinage in the city.

They say that in the 15th century the people of Bruges  killed Pieter Lanchals, the right hand of Maximilian of Austria, and when he took the city in revenge decided to fill the city with swans so that they had to take care of them. Swans because in flamenco Lanchals means long neck and in its coat of arms the family had represented a swan.

With this I finished the visit, happy nice week !!!
